UPS Access Point Collection location

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

We have all been there, ordered online and then waiting around for the courier to deliver. In some circumstances it means taking time off work, or simply sitting around at home instead of doing the stuff we love to do on our days off. Even though couriers can now give one hour delivery windows it still means being around to receive the delivery. Also if you have to go out when the driver turns up, he leaves a card and then you have to go through the hassle of re-delivery.

At Gooseberry we want our customers to purchase their hair-care products with the minimum of hassle, this is why we have teamed up with UPS to offer customer a service called ‘Access Point’.

So what is UPS Access Point?

When ordering your hair products online, via the checkout you can select the service UPS Access Point as a delivery option. This service allows you to choose from a selection of drop off points which are convenient for you to pick up your order from. Drop off locations include  retail outlets such as newsagents, flower shops, grocery stores and more. Simply enter your post code and find the nearest collection point. You can also see the time opening and closing times of the selected drop off points. No more waiting around for packages to arrive, simply order and collect at your convenience.

UPS Access Point Checkout

So how much will UPS Access Point cost?

You maybe thinking such convenience will come at a premium? Well, in-fact we are currently charging £1.95 within the UK for this service. This means you receive your order on next day delivery and dropped off at a collection point of your choosing! We are also offering the service to our customers in Germany, France and Spain for only £10. Delivery to these destinations will take 48 hours. More EU destinations will be added by UPS soon.

Instead of leaving tight ringlets shellacked, crispy, or greasy, these crystal-clear liquids lay down frizz with shorea and palm oils, says N.Y.C. stylist Gabrielle Corney. “If you’re going to straighten your hair, you’ll get an easier blow-dry.” If not, curls are left light and springy and parched ends are quenched.

Women With new hair colour

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

When you come to the salon and have your hair coloured inevitably after time your colour will fade. To keep your hair colour lasting for longer we have a few ideas which will help keep that colour looking great for longer.

Hair Needs Moisture

Colouring hair demands using chemicals which can strip the hair of all its moisture, this can lead to frizzy hair without the right treatment. Even though today’s hair colours have become less destructive to hair cuticles, using additional hair products like sprays can strip the hair of moisture. When hair is stripped of its natural moisture this will increase the rate that your colour fades and looks dull.

What can I do to moisturise my hair?

Using a good shampoo, conditioner and deep conditioner like a mask will really help the longevity of your hair colour. Such products will give your hair all the moisture and protection it needs. Ideally use products which are specific to treating dry hair.

Here are a few products which suit a moisture regime.

1. label.m Organic Moisturising Lemongrass Shampoo 200ml
2. label.m Organic Moisturising Lemongrass Conditioner 200ml
3. Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask 250ml

Besides using hair care products to extend your hairs colour you can also try these handy tips.

1. After you have had your colour done, don’t wash your hair for 48 hours. Not washing your hair will allow time for the colour treatment to really penetrate the hair. This will give your hair a more vivid colour whilst boosting longevity of the colour.

2. Don’t shampoo every day. The more you wash your hair the more natural oils will be lost as well as your colour.

3. Don’t use harsh hair care products which contain sulphates. Most colour boosting shampoos, conditioner wont contain sulphates.

4. Using a colour boosting shampoo and conditioner is a great way to prolong the life of your colour. How these product work is that they deposit colour into the hair. You can find our range of colour booster here

5. Always keep the water warm when washing your hair. Hot water will strip the colour out.

6. Make sure you have the right intake of vitamins from a health balanced diet read this article for more information

Food and Nutrients

Eating healthy and doing regular exercise is very important to maintain a healthy body and mind. Today, many people don’t receive enough of the right nutrients and minerals that the body needs. Too often people eat the wrong food which is mostly convenient, heavily processes and lacking nutrients. We all know eating fresh fruit and vegetables is good for us. However, what most of us don’t know is when fruit and veg are cooked they lose a lot of their nutritional content, especially when they are over cooked! I eat at a lot of raw vegetables and fruit as well as a meal which is cooked. This makes sure that I’m getting my daily intake of all the nutrients my body needs. It amazes me that labeling for food clearly shows the consumer how much salt, sugar and carbohydrates are within our food, but neglects to inform us of how much nutrients are present. People tend to be more concerned with how many calories a food has rather than what kind nutrients it contains.

How to cook vegetables?

Obviously, if you don’t overcook fruit and vegetables they will retain most of their nutritional value. If I cook vegetable they certainly have to be cooked al dente, which means to be firm and have crunch in the middle. The best way to cook vegetables is to steam them; this process makes sure the vegetables retain most of the nutritional content. Boiling vegetables releases a lot of the nutrients from the vegetable within the boiling water. Steaming vegetables is a more delicate way of cooking and retains the nutrients within vegetable.

Be inspired by nutrients.

Personally, in the past I didn’t eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, this was until I saw a documentary called ‘Fat Sick and Nearly Dead’. The documentary follows a man called Joe Cross who was seriously over weight, taking pills for blood pressure, skin problems and insulin for his diabetes. He embarked on a journey across America armed with a juicer and did a detox for 90 days consuming nothing but fruit and vegetable juice. By the end of the 90 days he was off all his medication, including insulin and he returned to a normal body weight. After watching this documentary I was very skeptical, ‘what is this guy selling’? I thought all this was too good to be true, so I decided to buy a juicer and do the detox for 7 days! The first two days of the detox I didn’t feel too good, but this is normal while your body adjusts to not having solids. After the 7 days of consuming nothing but juice I felt the best I have ever felt in my life. This led me to eating more fresh vegetable and fruit. If I go a couple of days without fruit and vegetable, I feel awful. This is how I must have felt prior to my daily intake of the good stuff; it’s just that I didn’t know anything else!

What does my diet have to do with my hair?

In the salon we see clients with all different hair types and hair conditions. Believe it or not, eating the right amount of protein and consuming the right amount of nutrients can have massive benefits to your hairs health. For example, not eating enough protein can lead to hair loss. If one of our clients has trouble with brittle hair we will first ask about their diet. However, some of us are born with certain hair types such as thin hair and may need an extra boost from shampoos, conditioners and other products we use.

Which food for my hair?

Here’s some great foods you can consume to improve the condition of your hair. Once you know which vitamins benefit the condition of your hair, you can easily find different foods with the same nutrients. So effectively there’s a world of nutrients out there in all kinds of unprocessed foods.

  1. Spinach = Brittle Hair Picture of Spinach Greens are a firm favourite of mine and spinach i eat every day. I really don’t see the point of cooking spinach; it has such a delicate flavour. I normally put it in salads and in my home made Thai fish cake wraps as a filler. Spinach is crammed full vitamin A, iron, folate, beta carotene, and vitamin C. All this nutrition helps keep the scalp in great condition and keeps the hair moisturised, which prevents breakage.
  2. Scallops = Full Bodied Hair Scallops I love scallops, especially when they are super fresh and put on the BBQ with nothing but a bit of seasoning! They not only taste great, but they are high in a mineral called Zinc. This mineral helps your body’s cells to produce hair and prevent or reduce hair loss. Oysters are also another food which is extremely high in Zinc.
  3. Eggs = Promote Growth eggs I love duck eggs especially, but chicken eggs are also are a great way to indulge your body and hair in vitamin B which helps hair growth. Biotin is also present within Eggs, this helps strengthen hair 4. Salmon = Shine for Hair Omega 3 is a fatty acid which helps protect your body against disease as well as giving hair a growth boost and extra shine.

Hair Loss and Thinning

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

We all lose hair on a daily basis, this is totally normal. In fact we lose around 50 to 100 strands of hair every single day. Hair loss is not normal if you find that you are losing a lot of your hair. Symptoms of hair loss range from gradual thinning to total loss of hair. There is a misconception that hair loss only effects men, when I fact it can effect women and in some cases children. If you experience bald patches, or thinning the likelyhood is you have a condition called Alopecia.

What are the symptoms of hair loss?

Loosing hair can happen suddenly or gradually over time, the speed and severity of hair loss depends on what is causing it. Also, losing hair is not just isolated to the cranium, hair loss can occur all over the body. Some types of Alopecia is temporary whilst in other cases the effects can be permanent.

Symptoms of hair loss

Thinning
This type of hair loss is by far the most common in both men and certainly women as they reach a mature age of around 50 and upwards. Men can suffer from receding hair from the forehead. Unlike men, ladies generally retain their hair line but suffer from a broad thinning of the hair. Thinning generally happens over time and stops at a certain point, or continue to further visible thinning.

Bald Patches
In both men and women hair loss is in small targeted areas and is clearly visible by bald spots on the head. The skin within and around the bald patches can become irritated and itchy. This condition can sometimes affects other parts of the body which hair is found such as eyebrows and facial hair.

Sudden
If you lose hair suddenly it maybe down to a dietary problem, physiological or mental problem such as stress. Chunks of hair will come out when washing or coming, even a slight pull will remove hair easily from the scalp.

What can I do if I start to loose hair?

If you start to loose hair you should always first consult a doctor and a dermatologist. They will recommend professional diagnostics and recommend treatments. Luckily, nearly all hair loss can be treated to prevent further loss.

Are there products which reduce the effects of hair loss?

Yes, there are a number of products on the market which will fight against the visible signs of hair loss for both men and women. Our favourite brand is called Nixon, they actually specialise in hair loss and thinning treatments. However, while we recommend Nioxin products you should always consult your doctor if you discover hair loss.
